She Keeps Bees – Is What It Is
New York blues-twinged duo She Keeps Bees are back with new single Is What It Is ahead, a down-tempo, lo-fi track.
Reverberating vocals are mixed with a mellow electro drumbeat and touches of electric guitar. It is a stripped-back masterpiece that The XX would be proud of.
Brooklyn-ite Sharon Van Etten also provided guest-vocals, lifting the chorus momentarily.
Damon Albarn - Mr. Tembo
Timber Timbre - Hot Dreams
Canada’s Timber Timbre serve up smoky, vintage wild Western music that sounds like something out of a Tarrentino flick.
Their new track Hot Dreams (also the name of their up-coming album) has all the deep guitar twangs and vocal microphone slap-backs that make the track sound more like a classic Elvis track than something produced in the digital age.
It is this nostalgia that makes the track special, the cinematic nature of their music and deeply introspective lyricism.
The video is equally sleek and sleazy, dragging the viewer into the pits of a Texan strip-joint that could been thrown straight off of the silver screen.
Damon Albarn – Everyday Robots
Damon Albarn has finally unleashed the first of a series of post-Gorillaz solo works, Everyday Robots, a melancholic masterpiece that confronts societies over-dependence on technology.
His pensive vocals sit atop a marching electronic beat and score of classic instrumentation, in truth, creating a sound that is incredibly similar to the last Gorillaz release.
